Revisited Change:
Exploring the Impacts of Climate Change in Appalachia
BFA Solo Exhibition - S. Tucker Cooke Gallery
Artist Statement
This body of work centers around the increasing severity of climate-related events on Earth's ecosystems and communities. As temperatures warm due to human activity, storms and natural disasters are becoming more frequent and severe. Through the use of photography as a journalistic art-making medium in combination with environmental science practices, I explore themes of regrowth and resilience in Southern Appalachia following the unprecedented impacts of Hurricane Helene, a climate-induced natural disaster. On a larger scale, this work seeks to document the long-term ecological and social effects of global warming and draw connections to the need for climate reform.
